Test method of organic chemical products— Part 1: Water miscibility test of liquid organic chemical products 1 Scope This part of GB/T 6324 specifies the test method for qualitatively detecting water-insoluble impurities contained in liquid organic chemical products. This part is applicable to liquid organic chemical products that are completely miscible with water in any proportion and can maintain chemical stability. 2 Normative references The following documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this part. For dated reference, subsequent amendments to (excluding any corrigendum), or revisions of, any of these publications do not apply. However, parties to agreements based on this part are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the latest editions of the standards indicated below. For any undated references, the latest edition of the document referred to applies. GB/T 6325-1994 Terminology of analysis for organic chemical product GB/T 6682 Water for analytical laboratory use—Specification and test methods (GB/T 6682-1992, neq ISO 3696:1987) 3 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this part of GB/T 6324, the following terms and definitions apply. 3.1 water miscibility test test performed under the specified conditions, in which the liquid specimen is mixed with water to observe the change in turbidity [GB/T 6325-1986, Definition 1.12] 3.2 clear and bright clarity of the test solution the same as that of the water used as the blank control solution, for the purposes of this part 4 Summary of method A certain volume of the sample is taken according to the determined proportion and placed in a colorimetric cylinder, water is added till 100 mL, and the resulting mixture is examined for cloudiness or turbidity. 5 Significance and use of method 5.1 Liquid organic chemical products that are completely miscible with water often contain insoluble impurities such as alkanes, olefins, high molecular weight alcohols or ketones, and aromatic hydrocarbons. These impurities may interfere with many uses of liquid organic chemical products. By using the differential water miscibility between liquid organic chemical products and these impurities, the presence or absence of water-insoluble impurities is qualitatively detected under the specified conditions. 5.2 When this test method is used in the product standard, the result can be used as the specification of the product standard. 5.3 The interpretation of what constitutes cloudiness or turbidity may be specified for different chemical products in advance in the product standard or be agreed upon between the supplier and the purchaser.
