本标准规定了皮带输送机型连续累计自动衡器的术语和定义、产品型号、计量性能要求、通用技术要求、电子皮带秤的要求、试验方法、检验规则及标志、包装、运输和贮存，还规定了电子皮带秤的型式评价的试验程序、型式评价报告格式。
本标准适用于利用重力原理、以连续的称量方式，确定并累计散状物料质量的皮带秤，亦适用于与单速皮带输送机或变速皮带输送机一起使用的皮带秤。本标准修改采用国际法制计量组织国际建议OIMLR50《连续累计自动衡器(皮带秤)》(Continuoustotalizingautomaticweighinginstruments)1997年版(R50-1、R50-2)。
本标准代替GB/T 7721-1995《电子皮带秤》。
