For the purposes of this specification, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
working space
portion of an incubator where the specified temperature, CO2 concentration and relative humidity can be maintained within the specified error range
3.2
steady state of testing equipment
state in which the variations of temperature, CO2 concentration and relative humidity at any point within the working space of the incubator meet the equipment’s own performance specifications
3.3
temperature indication error
difference between the average of the temperature indications and the average temperature at the center point of the working space of the incubator under steady state of testing equipment over a specified period of time
3.4
temperature uniformity
arithmetic mean of the differences between the maximum and the minimum temperatures measured at each measurement point within the working space of the incubator under steady state of testing equipment over a specified period of time
3.5
temperature fluctuation
temperature variation over time at the center point of the working space of the incubator under steady state of testing equipment over a specified period of time
3.6
CO2 concentration indication error
difference between the average of the CO2 concentration indications and the average CO2 concentration at the reserved sampling point (or the center point of the working space) of the incubator under steady state of testing equipment over a specified period of time
3.7
CO2 concentration fluctuation
CO2 concentration variation over time at the reserved sampling point (or the center point of the working space) of the incubator under steady state of testing equipment over a specified period of time
3.8
relative humidity indication error
difference between the average of the relative humidity indications and the average relative humidity at the center point of the working space of the incubator under steady state of testing equipment over a specified period of time
3.9
relative humidity fluctuation
relative humidity variation over time at the center point of the working space of the incubator under steady state of testing equipment over a specified period of time
4 General
Carbon dioxide (CO2) incubators (hereinafter referred to as "incubators") are used in laboratories for medicine, immunology, genetics, microbiology, and pharmacology. By simulating within the chamber an environment similar to the growth environment of cells or tissues in vivo (e.g., stable temperature, CO2 concentration, and relative humidity), the incubator conducts in vitro cultivation of cells or tissues. The incubator is composed of the chamber, temperature and humidity sensors, CO2 sensors, and their measurement and control systems.
