1 Scope
This standard specifies the basic requirements for materials, conditions, methods, quality control and test reports for acute contact toxicity test on natural enemy (ladybird beetles).
This standard is applicable to acute contact toxicity test on natural enemy (ladybird beetles) for the registration of chemical pesticides. It may be used as reference for other types of pesticides.
This part is not applicable to volatile and insoluble chemical pesticides.
2 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
2.1
median lethal application rate
application rate of test substance per unit area, at which 50% of the test organisms die in a certain test period, expressed by LR50
Note: the unit is g a.i./hm2.
2.2
test substance
substance to be tested
2.3
limit test
test on toxic effect of the test substance on ladybird beetles at the maximum field application dose multiplied by the multiple application factor where the test substance has a very low toxicity to ladybird beetles at the recommended maximum field application dose, or if a reliable LR50 value cannot be obtained
2.4
multiple application factor
ratio of the initial concentration after the last pesticide application to that after a single application when pesticide is applied for multiple times, expressed by MAF MAF is mainly dependent on the half-life of the compound, the application interval and application times
3 Test overview
The ladybird beetle larvae are treated by residual film method. Prepare the test substance into a series of diluents of different concentrations by water or other organic solvents, uniformly apply a certain amount of them on the surface of a glass plate or a leaf in a glass container of certain area; expose the test ladybird beetle larva in (on) it for certain time, observe and record their toxicity symptom and death daily until they have a stabilized death rate or become ladybird beetles. Calculate the LR50 value and 95 % confidence limit. Two types of instruments, i.e., finger-shaped tube or glass plate, may be used for film contamination in this standard.
