本标准是采用添加剂分子振动的特征红外吸收波长来测定其在油中的含量。即通过与基础油的红外光谱对经确定2，6-二叔丁基对甲酚的含量。如果无基础油参比，可测定存在的总酚。但测定的总精度可能会明显降低，检测极限也会相应增大。
本标准适用于DBPC浓度范围0.02%（质量分数）~0.90%（质量分数）。
