1 Scope
This standard specifies the track side test methods of vertical and lateral wheel-rail forces using the shear stress method.
This standard is applicable to the use of strain gauges to measure the vertical and lateral wheel-rail forces on the steel rail at the railway site.
2 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
2.1
lateral force of wheels/rails
forces exerted by the wheels on the rails in the lateral direction, perpendicular to the symmetry axis of the rail section
2.2
vertical force of wheels/rails
force exerted by the wheels on the rails in the direction parallel to the symmetry axis of the rail section
3 Test instruments and tools
3.1 Instruments
Signal modulator, data acquisition and analysis instrument, etc.
3.2 Tools
500 V or 1000 V insulation tester, lateral force calibration device, vertical force calibration device and other necessary tools.
4 Test methods of vertical force of wheels/rails
4.1 Test methods
Vertical force of wheels/rails shall be tested by the shear stress method.
