3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
flooding compounds
compounds flooded between components of the protection layer (e.g., sheath layer, armor layer, shield layer, etc.) of telecommunication cable and optical fibre cable or between the sheath and the cable core cladding, to prevent water or other fluids from entering or migrating into the cable core
3.2
cold-application flooding compounds
flooding compounds that can be applied without heating
3.3
hot-application flooding compounds
flooding compounds that needs to be heated into melt before use
3.4
waterproof flooding compounds
flooding compounds made of certain nonabsorbent materials
3.5
absorbent flooding compounds
flooding compounds made by adding a certain amount of water-absorbent materials into the waterproof flooding compounds
