1 Scope
This standard specifies technical requirements and test methods for rear underrun protective devices (RUPDS) of motor vehicles and trailers.
1.1 This standard is applicable to the following items:
Part I: RUPDS to be installed in N2, N3, O3 and O4 vehicles;
Part II: N2, N3, O3 and O4 vehicles installed with RUPDS in accordance with requirement of Part I in this standard;
Part III: N2, N3, O3 and O4 vehicles installed with RUPDS that are inspected not according to those specified in Part I of this standard, or those with their components designed with rear underrun protection (RUP) function or equipped with other components with RUP function.
This standard is not applicable to the following items:
- Semi-trailer tractor;
- Special vehicles designed and manufactured with a view to handling long goods that can't be sectioned, such as vehicles for transporting timber, steels, bars and other goods;
- Vehicles that are designed and manufactured for special purposes and can't be installed with RUPDS due to objective reasons.
1.2 This standard is formulated with a view to providing effective protection as so to avoid underride where M1 and N1 vehicles collided with vehicles involved in Article 1.1 of this standard.
