GB 13057-2023 Strength of seats and their anchorages of passenger vehicles Strength of seats and their anchorages of passenger vehicles 1 Scope This document specifies the technical requirements and test methods for the strength of seats and their anchorages of passenger vehicles. This document is applicable to the forward-facing passenger seats and their anchorages of Classes II, III and B passenger vehicles in categories M2 and M3, as well as to the restraining barriers and their anchorages mounted in front of the seats on such passenger vehicles. This document is not applicable to rearward-facing seats, side-facing seats and their anchorages, nor to driver's seats and their anchorages. 2 Normative references The following documents contain requirements which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies. GB 11551-2014 The protection of the occupants in the event of a frontal collision for motor vehicle GB 14166 Safety-belts, restraint systems, child restraint systems and ISOFIX child restraint systems for occupants of power-driven vehicles GB 14167 Safety-belt anchorages, ISOFIX anchorages systems and ISOFIX top tether anchorages for vehicles GB 15083-2019 Strength requirement and test method of automobile seats, their anchorages and any head restraints GB/T 15089 Classification of power-driven vehicles and trailers GB/T 29120-2012 Procedure for H-point and R-point determination 3 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB 11551-2014, GB 14166, GB 14167, GB 15083-2019, GB/T 15089 and GB/T 29120-2012 and the following apply.   3.1 forward-facing seat a seat for use in the operation of the vehicle, arranged facing the front of the vehicle so that the angle formed by the symmetrical vertical plane of the seat and that of the vehicle is 0°±10° [Source: GB 15083-2019, 3.2.1] 3.2 adjustment system a device by which the seat or its parts can be adjusted to a position suited to the morphology of the seated occupant [Source: GB 15083-2019, 3.7, modified] 3.3 displacement system a device by which the seat or one of its parts can be displaced laterally or longitudinally, without a fixed intermediate position, to permit easy access of the occupants [Source: GB 15083-2019, 3.8, modified] 3.4 locking system a device ensuring that the seat and its parts are maintained in the position of use … 4 Technical requirements 4.1 Seat requirements 4.1.1 General Each type of seat and restraining barrier shall meet the dynamic test requirements specified in 4.1.2. Each adjustment system and displacement system shall be equipped with an automatic locking system, and the adjustment system and locking system of the seat shall remain locked after the test.   4.1.2 Dynamic test requirements 4.1.2.1 The seat (or restraining barrier) shall be capable of restraining a non-belt-restrained HYBRID III manikin or TNO 10 manikin seated immediately behind it. The test shall be carried out in accordance with the test method specified in 5.1. During the test, no part of the manikin's torso and head shall be displaced forward beyond the transverse vertical plane 1.6m in front of the R point of the seat in which the dummy is seated. When the seat immediately behind a restraining barrier is equipped with a safety belt, that restraining barrier may be exempted from the test specified in 5.1. Note: HYBRID III manikin refers to a 50th percentile male manikin that meets the requirements of HYBRID Type III.
