1 Scope
This gauge is applicable to 1435mm standard gauge railways.
2 Definition
Structure gauge is a limit cross section contour vertical to the center line of track, in which other equipment or structures, except rolling stock and interactive equipment for rolling stock (car retarder, train card holder, contact wire and others), shall not intrude.
3 Application Method
3.1 Dimension of the structure gauge calculated from the rail surface either with new or used steel rail (including thickening track bed for forward replacement of heavy rail) shall meet the requirements.
3.2 Dimensions in the structure gauge figures are established for the tracks on the horizontal straight rails.
3.3 Distance between centers of adjacent lines in the curved section and extended distance between the line middle line and the structure shall be calculated according to specified formulas.
3.4 In the curved section, due to the super-elevation of outer rail, vertical height of the structure gauge shall be calculated from the straight line consisting of two peak points of the internal and external steel rails. The horizontal dimension shall be calculated from the center line of the widened tracks.
3.5 Distance between center lines of adjacent tracks at station and section as well as other secondary gauge dimensions are specified in various technical design specifications or standards of the Ministry of Railways.
4 Basic Dimension
4.1 Basic structure gauge
4.1.1 Structure gauge-1
Main track in station Main track in section and station

The structure gauge of the signal and water crane (main track is not applicable).
The platform structure gauge (main track is not applicable)
Basic gauges of various structures.
Applicable to the electric locomotive traction line overpass bridges and pluvial structures.
The minimum height of the electric locomotive traction line overpass bridge under difficult conditions.
Note: distance between the column structures at the passenger platform and the platform edge is at least 1.5m; that between the structure and the platform edge is at least 2.0m. 1100mm elevated platform may be constructed for the special track for passenger trains.
4.1.1.1 Structure gauge-1 is the basic structure gauge of nationwide railways, applicable to:
4.1.1.1.1 Newly-built railways since 1959.
4.1.1.1.2 Technical renovation of operating railways.
a. During construction of multiple tracks, at least one track must be in accordance with the structure gauge-1.
b. Railways that are subject to technical renovation as designated by the Ministry of Railways.
4.1.1.1.3 Goods trains with the loading gauge of 4450×5300mm. Loading dimensions of the goods are detailed in Appendix B. Various levels of off-gauge goods trains, when operating at single track or multiple tracks, shall be subject to the delivery method of off-gauge goods.
