Protective clothing - Chemical protective clothing
1 Scope
This document specifies the classification, grading, labeling, basic technical requirements and test methods of chemical protective clothing.
This document is applicable to chemical protective clothing required by operating personnel in workplaces and emergency rescue work.
This document is not applicable to chemical protective clothing used in firefighting and other applications.
Note 1: This document does not address performance indicator requirements for personal protective equipment such as gloves, protective boots/shoes, face masks, sight windows, safety glasses and respiratory devices, unless they are an integral part of the protective clothing and provide corresponding chemical protective performance.
Note 2: The protection objects covered by this document include gaseous, liquid and solid chemicals.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purpose of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
chemical protective clothing
clothing worn to protect the body against chemicals
Note: Such clothing may cover the whole, or greater part of the body, i.e. trunk, arms and legs. The chemical protective clothing may consist of garments combined together to provide protection to the body, and may also be used in combination with other protective equipment.
3.2
fully encapsulated chemical protective clothing
clothing that may completely cover the wearer (or completely cover the wearer and respiratory protective equipment) and may provide gas-tight and/or liquid-tight protection
3.3
non-encapsulated chemical protective clothing
clothing that protects greater part of the body, including at least trunk, arms and legs, which is unnecessarily to cover the respiratory equipment used by the wearer
Note: It is classified into one-piece coveralls or two-piece suits.
3.4
limited use chemical protective clothing
protective clothing that has low requirements imposed on the strength and abrasion resistance of clothing materials and may be used only once or for a limited number of times until it is contaminated
3.5
reusable chemical protective clothing
protective clothing that has high requirements imposed on the strength and abrasion resistance of clothing materials, and once used, may still provide effective protection after necessary decontamination treatment and qualification
3.6
gas-tight chemical protective suits
one-piece chemical protective clothing with hood, sight window and hand and foot protection, which can provide the wearer with protection against a high level of toxic and harmful chemicals (gaseous, liquid and solid particulates, etc.) when equipped with appropriate respiratory protective equipment
3.7
chemical protective clothing for emergency response team
type of chemical protective clothing worn by operating personnel in emergency rescue work
Note: The chemical protective clothing for emergency response team is represented by the abbreviation "ET", e.g. gas-tight chemical protective suits for emergency response team and liquid jet tight chemical protective clothing for emergency response team.
3.8
gas-tight chemical protective suits for emergency response team
type of one-piece chemical protective clothing with hoods, sight windows and hand and foot protection required by operating personnel in emergency rescue work, which provides the wearer with protection against toxic and harmful chemicals such as gaseous, liquid and solid particulates
3.9
liquid tight chemical protective clothing
clothing providing protection against liquid chemicals
Note: Full-body protective clothing with liquid tight connection between all parts of protective clothing and the equipment such as hood, gloves, shoes and boots, face panel or respiratory protective equipment used with it. It may be a one-piece coverall, a two-piece suit, or clothing with hood, face panel, socks, boots, gloves, etc.
3.10
liquid jet tight chemical protective clothing
full-body protective clothing providing protection against liquid chemicals under high pressure
Note: Protective clothing with liquid jet tight connection between all parts of protective clothing and the equipment such as hood, gloves, shoes and boots, face panel or respiratory protective equipment used with it. It may be a one-piece coverall, a two-piece suit, or clothing with hood, face panel, socks, boots, gloves, etc.
3.11
