1 Scope
This standard specifies the burning behavior code, technical requirements, test methods and acceptance rules of flame retardant and fire resistant electric wires and cables or optical fiber cables, including the burning behavior of halogen-free, low smoke, low toxicity, flame retardance and fire resistance.
This standard is applicable to flame retardant and fire resistant electric wires and cables or optical fiber cables containing halogen, halogen-free or with low smoke or low toxicity.

burning behavior that after a sample is burned under the specified conditions, the flame spread on the sample only within a limited range after the fire source is removed, i.e., burning behavior of a sample to prevent or delay the occurrence or spread of flame

fire resistance
burning behavior that a sample can operate continuously under specified conditions when it is burned on a specified fire source and in specific period
3.3
halogen free
burning behavior that the content of halogen (fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine) in the gases released from burning is less than or equal to 1.0 mg/g
3.4
low smoke
burning behavior that the concentration of smoke from burning will not reduce visibility (light transmittance) to the degree adversary to escape
3.5
low toxicity
burning behavior that the toxicity and concentration of toxic smoke from burning will not cause the death of living organisms within 30 min
4 General
The burning behavior of flame retardant and fire resistant electric wires and cables or optical fiber cables shall meet the requirements of this standard, and properties other than burning ones shall meet the relevant product standards.
Electric wires and cables or optical fiber cables may reduce their original basic properties while achieving the purpose of flame retardance and/or fire resistance, or make some original test methods inapplicable. The parties to agreements based on this standard shall discuss or negotiate an appropriate solution, which shall ensure the safety and reliability of electric wires and cables or optical fiber cables during use while achieving the purpose of flame retardance and/or fire resistance. On the premise of not compromising the safety and reliability during use, the corresponding technical indicators or test methods may be properly adjusted.
