GB/T 5293-2018 Solid wire electrodes,tubular cored electrodes and electrode/flux combinations for submerged arc welding of non alloy and fine grain steels (English Version)
This standard is drafted in accordance with the rules given in the GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB/T 5293-1999 Carbon Steel Electrodes and Fluxs for Submerged Arc Welding. The following main changes have been made with respect to GB/T 5293-1999 (the previous edition):
— standard name is changed to Solid Wire Electrodes, Tubular Cored Electrodes and Electrode/Flux Combinations for Submerged Arc Welding of Non Alloy and Fine Grain Steels;
— addition of the requirements for classification of tubular cored electrodes-flux combinations in accordance with ISO 14171:2016;
— addition of the corresponding technical requirements for double-sided single-pass welding in accordance with ISO 14171:2016;
— adjustment of the classification method and mechanical property requirements in accordance with ISO 14171:2016;
— deletion of the technical requirements for flux, and relevant contents are adjusted to GB/T 36037 Fluxes for Submerged Arc Welding and Electroslag Welding.
— retain 9 welding wire designations in the original standard, the metallurgical designation classification and chemical composition requirements are adjusted according to GB/T 3429-2015 Wire Rods for Welding, and the wire symbols are compiled respectively;
— addition of 44 symbols for welding wires in accordance with ISO 14171:2016. According to domestic usage habits of China, metallurgical designations have been classified according to GB/T 221-2008 Notations for Designation of Iron and Steel.
— according to the tensile strength range specified in this standard, addition of the technical requirements of 3 welding wire designations of H10Mn2A, H08MnMoA and H08Mn2MoA in GB/T 12470-2003 Low-alloy Steel Electrodes and Fluxes for Submerged Arc Welding; and according to GB/T 3429-2015, the classification of its metallurgical designations are changed to H13Mn2, H08MnMo and H08Mn2Mo, respectively, and the symbols are compiled as SU43, SUM3 and SUM31 respectively;
— according to the domestic use requirements of China, addition of the technical requirements of 4 designations of H10MnSi, H10Mn2Ni, H11Mn2Mo and H08MnCrNiCu in GB/T 3429-2015, and the symbols are compiled as SU28, SU35, SU4M32 and SUN1C1C respectively.
This standard has been redrafted and modified adoption of International Standard ISO 14171:2016 Welding Consumables — Solid Wire Electrodes, Tubular Cored Electrodes and Electrode/Flux Combinations for Submerged Arc Welding of Non Alloy and Fine Grain Steels — Classification (English version).
This standard has structural adjustments with respect to the ISO 14171:2016, and is compiled according to classification, technical requirements, test methods, re-inspection and technical conditions of supply.
The technical deviations between this standard and the International Standard ISO 14171:2016, together with their justifications, are given below:
— adjustment of technical difference are made for the normative references in this standard so as to adapt to the technical conditions in China. The adjustment conditions are mainly reflected in Clause 2 Normative References; see below for specific adjustments:
addition of references GB/T 2650, GB/T 2651 GB/T 2652 and GB/T 3323;
ISO 6847 and ISO 13916 are replaced by GB/T 25777 and GB/T 18591, which are identical with the international standards;
ISO 3690, ISO 15792-1, ISO 15792-2, ISO 544 and ISO 14344 are replaced by GB/T 3965, GB/T 25774.1, GB/T 25774.2, GB/T 25775 and GB/T 25778, which are modified adoption of the international standards;
deletion of ISO 80000-1:2009.
— addition of the corresponding metallurgical designations classification comparing with solid wire electrode symbols according to the actual application in China.
— addition of the technical requirements for solid wire electrode symbols SU08A, SU08E, SU08C, SU13, SU26, SU27, SU28, SU34, SU35, SU43, SU44, SU45, SUM3, SUM31, SU4M32 and SUN1C1C.
— retain the technical requirements of wire electrode size and surface quality specified in GB/T 5293-1999.
— retain the requirements of radiographic inspection specified in GB/T 5293-1999 to adapt to the technical requirements of China.
For the purposes of this standard, the following editorial changes have also been made:
— standard name is changed to Solid Wire Electrodes, Tubular Cored Electrodes and Electrode/Flux Combinations for Submerged Arc Welding of Non Alloy and Fine Grain Steels;
— addition of Annex A (Informative) Complete List of Solid Wire Electrode Designations and Symbols

1 Scope
This standard specifies the classification, technical requirements, test methods, re-inspection and technical conditions of supply of solid wire electrodes, tubular cored electrodes electrodes and electrode/flux combinations for submerged arc welding of non-alloy and fine grain steels.
This standard is applicable to the classification of solid wire electrodes, and electrode/flux combinations for submerged arc welding of non-alloy and fine grain steels with a minimum tensile strength of up to 570 MPa.

3 Classification
3.1 Classification of solid wire electrode
The solid wire electrode shall be classified in accordance with its chemical composition. The letter "SU" indicates the submerged arc welding solid wire electrode, and the combination of numbers or numbers and letters after "SU" indicates the classification of chemical composition. See Annex A for a comparison of symbols/designations between different standards for solid wire electrode.
The examples of symbols of solid wire electrodes in this standard are as follows:

3.2 Classification of electrode/flux combination
3.2.1 Solid wire electrode/flux combination classification is divided according to mechanical properties, post-weld state, flux type and wire electrode symbol.
3.2.2 Flux cored wire electrode/flux combination classification is divided according to mechanical properties, post-weld state, flux type and chemical composition of all-weld metal.
3.2.3 Wire electrode/flux combination classification consists of five parts:
1) Part 1: the wire electrode/flux combination of submerged arc welding is indicated by the letter "S";
2) Part 2: indicates the tensile strength code of the all-weld metal under the condition of welding or post-weld heat treatment, see Table 1A; or the tensile strength code of the welded joint for two-run welding, see Table 1B;
3) Part 3: the test temperature code when the impact energy (KV2) is not less than 27 J, see Table 2;
4) Part 4: indicates the flux type code, see Annex B;
5) Part 5: indicates the symbols of solid wire electrode, see Table 3; or the chemical composition of the all-weld metal of the tubular cored electrodes electrode-flux combination, see Table 4.
In addition to the above mandatory classification code, an optional code can be added to the combination classification:
a) the letter "U", appended to the Part 3, indicates that the impact energy absorption (KV2) shall not be less than 47 J at the specified test temperature;
b) diffusion hydrogen code "HX", appended to the last, where "X" may be the number 15, 10, 5, 4 or 2, respectively indicating the maximum value (mL) of diffusible hydrogen content per 100 g of all-weld metal, see Table 5.

3 Classification
3.1 Classification of solid wire electrode
The solid wire electrode shall be classified in accordance with its chemical composition. The letter "SU" indicates the submerged arc welding solid wire electrode, and the combination of numbers or numbers and letters after "SU" indicates the classification of chemical composition. See Annex A for a comparison of symbols/designations between different standards for solid wire electrode.
The examples of symbols of solid wire electrodes in this standard are as follows:

3.2 Classification of electrode/flux combination
3.2.1 Solid wire electrode/flux combination classification is divided according to mechanical properties, post-weld state, flux type and wire electrode symbol.
3.2.2 Flux cored wire electrode/flux combination classification is divided according to mechanical properties, post-weld state, flux type and chemical composition of all-weld metal.
3.2.3 Wire electrode/flux combination classification consists of five parts:
1) Part 1: the wire electrode/flux combination of submerged arc welding is indicated by the letter "S";

The dimensions and surface quality of wire electrodes shall meet the requirements of GB/T 25775.

The chemical composition of solid wire electrodes shall comply with those specified in Table 3;
