1 Scope
This document specifies the specimen dimensions and test procedure for longitudinal tensile testing of circular cross-section specimens of weld metal in fusion welded joints for the determination of their mechanical properties.
This document applies to all types of metallic products manufactured by the fusion welding method where the joint dimensions can be made into a circular cross-section specimen in accordance with ISO 6892-1.

3 Terminology and definitions
There are no terms and definitions that need to be defined in this document.
4 Symbols and abbreviations
The symbols and abbreviations used for the longitudinal tensile test shall be as specified in ISO 6892-1.
5 General rules
The test force applied to a longitudinal circular cross-sectional specimen of fusion weld head metal shall be continuously increased until the specimen breaks.
Unless otherwise specified, the room temperature test shall be carried out in the range 10 °C to 35 °C. For tests with strict temperature requirements, the test temperature shall be 23 °C ± 5 °C.
Unless otherwise specified in this document, the test shall be conducted in accordance with the general principles of ISO 6892-1.
6 Specimen preparation
6.1 Sampling location
Specimens shall be taken longitudinally from the finished welded joint or welded specimen. After processing, the parallel length of the specimen shall consist entirely of weld metal (see Figures 1 and 2).
To ensure correct positioning of the specimen in the joint, macro erosion of the joint cross section at both ends of the specimen may be carried out.
6.2 Marking
Each specimen should be marked so as to identify its exact position from the finished product or joint. Each specimen should also be marked so as to identify its exact position in the specimen.
When the specimen is removed from the test piece, each specimen shall be marked.
6.3 Heat treatment and/or ageing
Welded joints or specimens shall not be subjected to heat treatment, except where the relevant application standard specifies or permits the test welded joint to be heat treated, in which case the process parameters for heat treatment shall be recorded in detail in the test report. In the case of aluminium alloys subject to natural ageing, the interval between welding and the start of the test shall be recorded.
The presence of hydrogen in the weld metal of steel can adversely affect the test results and appropriate hydrogen removal treatments may be applied.
6.4 Sampling
6.4.1 General requirements
The method of mechanical or thermal processing used for sampling shall not have any effect on the properties of the specimen.
6.4.2 Steel
Shear methods should not be used when the thickness exceeds 8 mm. When cutting specimens from welded specimen plates or specimens by thermal cutting or other cutting methods that affect the properties of the cut surfaces, ensure that all cut surfaces are at least 8 mm from the surface of the final parallel length of the specimen.
6.4.3 Other metallic materials
Shearing and thermal cutting methods shall not be used and shall be followed by mechanical machining methods (e.g. sawing, turning, etc.). 6.5 Specimen processing
Unless otherwise specified in the application standard for the test joint, the specimen shall be taken from the centre of the weld metal (see Figure 1) and its cross-sectional position shall be shown in Figure 2. Where the specimen cannot be taken at the centre of the thickness, the distance t from the surface shall be recorded, see Figure 2a) and Figure 2b). In the case of thick plates or double-sided welded joints, several specimens may be intercepted at different positions along the thickness direction, see Fig. 2c), and the distance t from each specimen to the surface in the cross-section of the joint shall be recorded, and l t2w
6.6 Dimensions
Each specimen shall be machined to a circular cross-section with a diameter d. within the parallel length of the specimen in accordance with ISO 6892-1.
The diameter of the specimen d. shall be 10 mm or, if this is not possible, as large as possible and not less than 4 mm. the actual dimensions shall be recorded in the test report.
The clamped end of the specimen shall meet the requirements of the tensile testing machine used.
6.7 Surface quality
The tolerances of the specimens shall conform to ISO 6892-1. The specimens shall be protected from strain hardening or overheating.
7 Test procedure
The test force shall be applied to the specimen in a continuous and progressive manner in accordance with ISO 6892-1.
8 Test results
8.1 General requirements
The test results shall be determined in accordance with ISO 6892-1.
8.2 Fracture surface examination
After the specimen has been fractured, the fracture surface shall be examined and any defects in the fracture that may adversely affect the test shall be recorded in a report, including the type, size and number of defects. If a white spot appears, this shall be recorded and only the central area of the white spot shall be considered to be defective.
9 Test reports
In addition to the contents required by ISO 6892-1, the test report shall include the following:
a) The number of the document on which it is based, e.g. GB/T2652-2022;
b) The location of the specimen, with a diagram if required (see Figures 1 and 2);
c) the test temperature if the test is not carried out at room temperature
d) Type, size and number of defects observed;
e) diameter of the specimen, d
An example of a typical test report is given in Appendix A. If required, the specified plastic elongation strength, R, and its corresponding test force, F, may be replaced by the upper yield strength, the lower yield strength, the specified total elongation strength and its corresponding test force in Table Q.
