This document is developed in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2020 Directives for standardization - Part 1: Rules for the structure and drafting of standardizing documents.
This document replaces GB/T 31032-2014 Welding and acceptance standard for steel pipings and pipelines. In addition to structural adjustments and editorial, the following main technical changes have been made with respect to GB/T 31032-2014:
a) The scope of application has been changed, changing the term "gas" to "natural gas" in the applicable medium, changing the scope of application from "transmission pipelines, pipe networks, valve chambers, and stations" to "long-distance pipings and pipelines, gathering pipings and pipelines", deleting the "gas welding" welding method, and adding acceptance requirements such as X-ray digital imaging detection and X-ray computer-aided imaging detection (see Clause 1 hereof; and Clause 1 of Edition 2014);
b) The terms and definitions of "owner", "contractor", "root welding", "repair", "weld", "display", "qualified welder", "welder examination" and "welding procedure qualification" have been deleted (see 3.1, 3.2, 3.5, 3.9, 3.12, 3.16, 3.18, 3.19 and 3.21 of Edition 2014);
c) The terms and definitions of “welding procedure qualification record” "automatic welding", "root bead", "back welding", "repair welding", "full thickness repair", “partial thickness repair” "back weld repair", "double repair", "rework", "welding heat input" preheat temperature", “interpass temperature” "postweld heat treatment", "hollow bead", "temper bead" and "weld deposition repair" have been added (see 3.2, 3.5, 3.10, 3.11, 3.15 ~ 3.24, 3.28 ~ 3.30)

Welding and acceptance standard for steel pipings and pipelines
1 Scope
This document specifies the arc welding process for butt joints, corner joints and socket joints of carbon steel and low alloy steel pipes and pipe fittings of long-distance pipings and pipelines and gathering pipings and pipelines with crude oil, refined oil, natural gas, carbon dioxide and nitrogen.
The welding methods to which this document applies are electrode arc welding, submerged arc welding, fused and non-fused gas shielded arc welding, flux-cored wire arc welding, plasma arc welding or a combination thereof. The welding methods are manual welding, semi-automatic welding, mechanized welding, automatic welding or a combination thereof. The welding position is position welding, roll welding or a combination thereof.
This document also specifies the acceptance requirements for radiographic inspection, X-ray digital imaging inspection, X-ray computer-aided imaging inspection, magnetic particle inspection, penetrant inspection, ultrasonic inspection, fully automatic ultrasonic inspection, phased array ultrasonic inspection and the use of destructive tests for welded joints.
This document is applicable to the welding of newly built, renovated, expanded and in-service pipings and pipelines.
