GB/T 7424的本部分规定了光缆的机械性能、环境性能和元件的各试验方法的目的、试样、设备、程序、要求和待规定细节等。 本部分代替ＧＢ／Ｔ７４２４．２—２００２《光缆总规范　第２部分：光缆基本试验方法》。
本部分适用于GB/T 7424.1规定的光缆。 本部分与ＧＢ／Ｔ７４２４．２—２００２的主要差异如下：
———３．４标题由“标准大气条件”改为“试验环境条件和预处理条件”，并直接引用ＧＢ／Ｔ２４２１—
１９９９的具体规定；
———取消“３．６ 图形符号与术语”，以下条目编号顺减；
———３．８改为３．７，增加了具体内容；
———增加了第４章“光缆试验”，以便与ＩＥＣ６０７９４１２：２００３相同。本章说明本部分中的方法编号情况。以后的各章的编号顺延；
———方法Ｅ７中的扭转角增加了建议值“±１８０°”；
———方法Ｅ１３又分为两个方法Ｅ１３Ａ 和Ｅ１３Ｂ。Ｅ１３Ａ 与原来内容基本相同，但去掉了对弹着点数
量的限制。Ｅ１３Ｂ为新增加的方法；
———方法Ｅ１８分成了Ｅ１８Ａ 和Ｅ１８Ｂ 两个方法，程序由２个增加为４个。增加了单一局部弯曲和多个局部弯曲的程序；
———方法Ｅ１９“风振”制定了详细的内容，它等同采用ＩＥＣ６０７９４-１-２：２００３中的方法Ｅ１９；
———增加并制定了方法Ｅ２０“成圈性能”的详细内容，它等同采用ＩＥＣ６０７９４-１-２：２００３ 中的方法Ｅ２０；
———方法Ｆ６的预处理限值由“光缆试样总质量的０．５％或０．５ｇ”改为两者的较小者；
———增加并制定了方法Ｆ１０“耐静水压”及其具体内容，它等同采用ＩＥＣ６０７９４-１-２：２００３ 中的方法Ｆ１０；
———增加并制定了方法Ｈ１“短路电流试验”及其具体内容，它等同采用ＩＥＣ６０７９４-１-２：２００３ 中的方法Ｈ１；
