3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
hand-held metal detector
A hand-held metal detection device capable of detecting metal objects that reach or exceed a defined quantity.
3.2
positive alarm
An alarm signal given by the detector in the form of a specified sound, display or vibration when a metal object reaching or exceeding the defined quantity is detected.
3.3
alarm failure
Failure of the detector to alarm for a metal object that reaches or exceeds the defined quantity.
3.4
false alarm
An erroneous alarm given by the detector when detection has not yet been carried out or when no object requiring an alarm is present.
3.5
detector sensor
The sensor of the detector that detects metal.
3.6
detector axis
An imaginary axis passing through and perpendicular to the centre of the detection area of the sensor (generally the centre of the external dimensions of the sensor when not specified by the product) (see Figure 1).
3.7
detector base plane
The plane located on the surface of the detector sensor that is closest to the object under test during normal use (see Figure 1).
3.8
detection plane
A series of imaginary two-dimensional planes located above and parallel to the detector base plane when the detector is detecting an object under inspection.
3.9
detection distance
The distance between the detection plane and the detector base plane.
3.10
detection class
A classification used to describe the detection capability of a detector for metal objects of a certain size and electromagnetic characteristics.
3.11
test object
A specially made metal object used to verify the performance of a detector and evaluate its detection class.
3.12
automatic test system
An automated testing device used to simulate the process of a tester using a detector to detect a test object, and capable of placing the test object or the detector for testing.
4 Technical requirements
4.1 Appearance
The surface of the detector shall be smooth and clean, and shall be free from crazing, blistering, coating peeling, sharp corners and edges, flash and burrs, and obvious scratches.
4.2 Mechanical structure
4.2.1 Housing strength
The detector shall have sufficient mechanical strength and shall not exhibit loosening, misalignment, cracks or twisting deformation during normal use.
4.2.2 Enclosure protection rating
The enclosure protection rating of the detector shall meet the requirements of IP31 in GB/T 4208.
4.2.3 Battery placement
The battery placement of the detector shall meet the following requirements:
a) The battery shall be built-in and easy to replace or recharge;
b) The detector circuit shall be effectively isolated from the battery compartment.
4.2.4 Overall mass
The overall mass of the detector shall not exceed 800 g (including batteries).
4.3 Operating and control devices
Buttons, switches and interfaces shall operate flexibly, with clear tactile feedback and reliable functions.
4.4 Power supply
The power supply shall meet the following requirements:
a) Battery-powered, with a supply voltage not exceeding 15 V;
b) Capable of continuous normal and stable operation for at least 24 h without the need to replace the battery or recharge;
c) Equipped with a battery level indicator or low voltage indicator function;
d) The battery shall comply with the requirements of GB/T 8897 (all parts) or bear the China Compulsory Certification (CCC) mark.
