1 Scope
This document specifies the type specifications (or grades), technical requirements, inspection requirements, inspection certificate, packaging, marking, storage, transportation and re-inspection requirements for wool, and describes the sampling methods and test methods for wool.
This document is applicable to the production, trading, processing, quality supervision and import inspection and appraisal of wool.

For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

wool
Fibres obtained from sheep (Ovis aries).
Note: According to the degree of homogeneity, wool can be classified as homogeneous wool (3.2), partially homogeneous wool (3.5) and heterogeneous wool (3.3).

homogeneous wool
Wool (3.1) composed of a single type of fibre.
Note: According to the mean fibre diameter range, homogeneous wool is classified into three types: superfine wool (3.8), fine wool (3.9) and medium-fine wool (3.10).

heterogeneous wool
Wool (3.1) composed of different types of fibres.
Note: Different types of fibres include non-medullated fibres, medullated fibres and hetero-type fibres. For related definitions, see GB/T 14270.

fleece
Wool (3.1) removed from a live sheep, with staples interconnected in a tight web-like formation.
3.5
partially homogeneous wool
Wool (3.1) in which most staples in the fleece (3.4) are of homogeneous wool form, with a small portion being of heterogeneous wool form.

skirting wool
Fibres removed from the edges of the fleece (3.4) that are clearly different from the main body wool.

head, leg and tail wool
Fibres removed from the head, legs and tail of a sheep.

superfine wool
Homogeneous wool (3.2) with a mean fibre diameter of 19.0 μm or less.
