Gum turpentine
1 Scope
This document specifies the technical requirements, sampling, inspection rules, grading, as well as marking, packaging, transportation and storage of gum turpentine, and describes the corresponding test methods.
This document is applicable to turpentine products obtained by distilling or otherwise processing pine oleoresin collected from living pine trees.
2 Normative references
The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
gum turpentine
oily liquid with a characteristic pine aroma, obtained by distilling or otherwise processing pine oleoresin collected from living pine trees
Note: Where the source tree species needs to be indicated, the species name shall be added to the designation of gum turpentine, for example, gum turpentine from Pinus massoniana Lamb, gum turpentine from Pinus kesiya var. langbianensis (A.Chev.) Gaussen ex Bui, and gum turpentine from Pinus elliottii Engelm.
3.2
heavy turpentine
gum turpentine product mainly composed of sesquiterpenes
Note: In this document, “heavy turpentine” includes both the product obtained by further distillation at an increased temperature after the top fraction and middle fraction have been distilled off during pine oleoresin distillation, and the product obtained after monoterpenes such as α-pinene and β-pinene have been separated from the top fraction by distillation.
4 Technical requirements
4.1 Gum turpentine from Pinus massoniana Lamb and Pinus kesiya var. langbianensis (A.Chev.) Gaussen ex Bui
Gum turpentine from Pinus massoniana Lamb and Pinus kesiya var. langbianensis (A.Chev.) Gaussen ex Bui is classified into two grades: Superior grade and Grade I. The technical indicators for each grade shall be as specified in Table 1.
