本标准规定了与高压开关设备有关的通用术语和高压开关设备、开关部件、操作、特性参量、试验及试验设备等电工术语的定义。本标准适用于高压断路器、重合器、分段器、负荷开关、隔离开关、接地开关、接触器、起动器、组合电器、金属封闭开关设备(高压开关柜)等高压开关设备(未包括熔断器，它另有自身的术语标准)制定、修订标准，编写和翻译技术资料、专业手册和书刊等引用。
