Marine internal combustion engine oils 1 Scope This standard specifies the product variety and labeling, technical requirements and test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation and storage of marine internal combustion engine oils prepared with refined mineral oil as base oil and various functional additives (or compounds). Marine system oils are classified into four designations: 3005, 3008, 4005 and 4008. Marine medium-speed trunk-piston diesel engine oils are classified into 12 designations: 3012, 3015, 3020, 3030, 3040, 3050, 4012, 4015, 4020, 4030, 4040 and 4050. For the designations above, the first two digits represent the viscosity grade and the latter digits represent the base number grade of the product. Note: See Annex A for the correspondence between the base number of marine internal combustion engine oil and the sulfur content of adopted fuel oil. 3.2 Product labeling The marine internal combustion engine oil is labeled as: Example 1: Marine cylinder oil 5070. Example 2: Marine system oil 3005. Example 3: Marine medium speed trunk-piston diesel engine oil 4030. 4 Technical requirements and test methods 4.1 See Table 1 for the technical requirements and test methods of marine cylinder oils. 4.2 See Table 2 for the technical requirements and test methods of marine system oils. 4.3 See Table 3 for the technical requirements and test methods of marine medium-speed trunk-piston diesel engine oils. 4.4 The bench test and actual ship test of marine internal combustion engine oil shall be determined through negotiation between the supplier and the user of lubricating oil.
