本标准修改采用了ISO 287:1985《纸和纸板 水分的测定 烘干法》和ISO 638:1978《纸浆 绝干物含量的测定》。
本标准是对GB/T 462-2003《纸和纸板水分的测定》、GB/T 741-2003《纸浆分析试样水分的测定》的整合修订。本标准同时代替GB/T 462-2003和GB/T 741-2003。
本标准规定了取样后测定纸、纸板和纸浆水分含量的方法。本标准适用于各种纸、纸板和纸浆，但这些纸、纸板和纸浆不应含有除水分以外，在规定的试验温度下能挥发的任何物质。
本方法不适用于液体浆水分的测定，或成批浆包销售质量的测定。
本标准与GB/T 462-2003和GB/T 741-2003相比，主要变化如下：
——修改了范围，标准使用范围为分析试样水分的测定；
——增加了第3章“术语和定义”内容，加入了恒重的术语和定义；
——修改了取样。
