1 Scope This standard specifies determination methods of antimony in polyester resin and products for food containers and packaging materials — graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry and malachite green spectrophotometric method. This standard is applicable to the determination of antimony in thermoplastic polyester resin and products. It also applicable to the determination of antimony in food enamels and containers. Detection limit of Method II "Malachite Green Spectrophotometric Method" in this standard is 0.02 μ/mL. Method I Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry 2 Principle Tervalent antimony reduced by potassium iodide will complex with 1-Pyrrolidinecarbodithioic acid (APDC) in the hydrochloric acid medium, it can be determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometer after extracted with 4-Methyl-2-pentanone (methyl isobutyl ketone, MIBK).
