1 General Provisions
1.0.1 This Code is developed to adapt the demands of urban road construction and development in China, regulate engineering design of urban road, unify the key technical indexes of urban road engineering design, and guide the development of standards for urban road.
1.0.2 This standard is applicable to design of new and reconstructed urban roads at all levels within city.
1.0.3 Engineering design of urban road shall adopts reasonable technical standards according to factors such as master city plan, comprehensive city transportation planning, functional planning and considering coordination of social benefit, environment benefit and economic benefit. The engineering design shall adhere to and reflect the design principles "people oriented, resource saving and environment-friendly".
1.0.4 In addition to the requirements of this code, engineering design of urban road shall meet those specified in the current relevant standards of the state.
2 Terms and Symbols
2.1 Terms
2.1.1 Main road
Road separated from side road in freeway or arterial road, which serve motor vehicles to pass quickly.
2.1.2 Side road
Road arranged discontinuously or continuously on one or two sides of main road, serving unidirectional or bidirectional traffic, in purpose of collection and distribution for freeway or arterial road traffic.
2.1.3 Design speed
Running speed used in geometric design of road (including radius of horizontal curve, longitudinal gradient, sight distance, etc.).
2.1.4 Design life
It includes life of future traffic condition that is used to determine width of pavement and design life that road pavement structure can be used in predetermined purpose without overhaul, to determine pavement structure.
2.1.5 Traffic capacity
Maximum traffic flow that passes through certain cross section on a road section in a unit time in certain road and traffic conditions.
2.1.6 Level of service, service level
An index based on which operation conditions of traffic flow and service quality felt by drivers and passengers are weighed; it is generally determined by indicators such as traffic volume, speed, running time, degree of running (walk) freedom, traffic interruption, comfort and convenience.
2.1.7 Colorful asphalt concrete pavement
New asphalt concrete pavement with certain strength and pavement performance, made by mixing decolored asphalt and materials like colored stones or resene cementing materials, stainers and additives at the given temperature.
2.1.8 Reducing noise pavement
Pavement that has function to reduce noise generated by tire and pavement friction.
2.1.9 Pervious pavement
Pavement in which precipitation water passes through road structural layer with high area ratio and good permeability performance.
