Coding regulation for automotive traction battery
1 Scope
This standard specifies the objects, code structure composition, code structure representation method and data carrier of automotive traction battery code.
This standard is applicable to automotive traction batteries, super capacitors and other rechargeable energy storage devices.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purpose of this standard, the terms and definitions specified in GB/T 19596 as well as the followings apply.
3.1
traction battery code
an identification code composed of a set of numbers and English letters with certain information meaning, representing the main attribute and uniqueness of traction battery
4 Coding
4.1 Coding objects
The coding objects are automotive traction battery pack, battery module and battery monomer as well as those in cascade utilization; moreover, correspondence shall be established for all objects mentioned above.
4.2 Code structure composition
The code structure consists of two parts, i.e., design information and production information, as detailed in Table 1 and Table 2 respectively. The two parts may be coded respectively or in combination.
The code structure is also applicable to the traction battery products in cascade utilization, for which, recoding shall be conducted according to coding rules, and the original code shall be remained. During the coding, traceability information code of the extended structure l is unavailable.

X18 X19 X20 X21 X22 X23 X24 Serial number
X25 X26 Cascade utilization code
4.3 Code structure representation method
4.3.1 Manufacturer code
Manufacturers include production manufacturers, cascade utilization manufacturers and importers. The manufacturer code is represented by three digits of English capital letters, numbers 0 to 9, or a combination of letters and numbers, which are uniformly distributed by the industry administration department.
4.3.2 Product type code
The traction battery pack, battery module and battery monomer are represented by capital letters P, M and C respectively.
4.3.3 Battery type code
The battery type code is represented by the battery material type, i.e., an English capital letter, as shown in Table 3. For multi-component mixed material system, coding is conducted based on the component with the maximum content; where there are two or more components with the same content, the one with inferior safety shall be adopted for coding.

Ni-mh battery A
Lithium iron phosphate battery B
lithium-ion manganese oxide battery C
Cobalt based lithium battery D
Ternary material battery E
Super capacitor F
Lithium titanate battery G
Others Z
4.3.4 Specification code
The specification code is represented by two digits of English capital letters, numbers 0~9 or a combination of letters and numbers. It is defined by the enterprise and refers to different product specifications and models. The enterprise needs to record the customized specification code.
4.3.5 Traceability information code
The traceability information code is represented by seven digits of English capital letters, numbers 0~9, or a combination of letters and numbers. It is defined by the enterprise. Traceability information code is necessary for new traction battery products while unavailable for those in cascade utilization. The enterprise needs to record the customized traceability information code. It is not recommended to use letters that are easy to be confused with numbers, such as O, I, Q, S and Z.
4.3.6 Manufacturing date code
The manufacturing date is represented by three digits of English capital letters and numbers. Where, the first digit represents the year, of which, the code is used according to Table 4 (in 30-year cycling); the second digit represents the month expressed in hexadecimal values; the third digit represents the date used in accordance with Table 5.
