1 Scope
This standard specifies the classification of ESFR sprinklers, nominal operating temperature, color identification, model specification, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, transportation and storage, etc.
This standard is applicable to K202 (pendent and uprights), K242 (pendent and and upright), K323 (pendent), and K363 (pendent) ESFR sprinklers. For other types of ESFR sprinklers, refer to this part.
This part is not applicable to the specific application sprinklers.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purpose of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB 5135.1 and the following apply.
3.1
conductivity factor
C
a measure of the heat conductance between the sprinkler's heat responsive element and the other components of the sprinkler, expressed in unit of (m/s)1/2
3.2
actual delivered density
ADD
density of water discharge penetrating the fire plume and reaching the surface of the comburent
3.3
early suppression
a characteristic of sprinkler performance whereby the first few operating sprinklers are able to deliver sufficient water to the fire to promptly reduce the fire growth and ultimately suppress the fire to an acceptable level
3.4
early suppression fast response (ESFR) automatic sprinklers
sprinklers that discharge water over a designed protection area in certain shape and density to provide early suppression against fire after the heat-sensitive elements are automatically started with prescribed temperature range under thermal action
4 Classification
4.1 Classification according to heat-sensitive elements
4.1.1 Fusible element ESFR sprinkler
ESFR sprinkler that opens by the melting of the heated alloy of a fusible element
4.1.2 Glass bulb ESFR sprinkler
ESFR sprinkler that is opened by the bursting of the glass bulb resulting from thermal expansion of the fluid filled in the glass bulb
4.2 Classification according to installation positions
4.2.1 Pendent ESFR sprinkler
ESFR sprinkler arranged by pendent installation such that the water flow is directed downwards against the deflector
4.2.2 Upright ESFR sprinkler
ESFR sprinkler arranged by upright installation such that the water flow is directed upwards against the deflector
5 Nominal operating temperature, color identification and model specification
5.1 Nominal operating temperature and color coding
