1 Scope
This part of GB/T 30240 specifies relevant terms and definitions, translation methods and requirements, writing requirements and the like for the use of English in post and telecommunications service area.
This part is applicable to English translation and writing of names of postal and telecommunications service institutions and their service information.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
postal service
a general term for services provided by postal enterprise, including mail transmission service, postal exchange service and other relevant services specified by the nation
3.2
telecommunications service
a general term for data transmission services such as telegram, telephone, mobile telephone and internet provided by telecommunication enterprise via modern information technology
4 Translation Methods and Requirements
4.1 Name of post and telecommunications organizations
4.1.1 "邮政局" is translated as Post Office; "邮政支局" as Branch Post Office; "邮政代办所" as Postal Agency.
4.1.2 Business outlets and window service agency of postal service and telecommunications may all be translated as Customer Service Center, e.g. China Telecom Customer Service Center.
4.1.3 Names of other post and telecommunications institutions shall be translated and written according to 5.1 in GB/T 30240.1-2013. Specific provisions are given in Annex A.
4.2 Postal and telecommunications service information
4.2.1 Postal and telecommunications service information shall be translated and written according to 5.2 in GB/T 30240.1-2013. Specific provisions are given in Annex B.
4.2.2 The translation and abbreviation of post and telecommunications terms shall meet the requirements of professional code or application convention with respect to post and telecommunications.
4.3 Words and expressions selection and spelling method
The selection and spelling of English words and expressions shall meet the requirements of 5.3 in GB/T 30240.1-2013.
4.4 Grammar and format
English person, tense, single and plural form and abbreviation shall meet the relevant requirements of 5.4 in GB/T 30240.1-2013.
5 Writing Requirements
English capitalization, punctuation, font, blank space, line advance and the like shall meet the requirements of Chapter 6 in GB/T 30240.1-2013.
