1 Scope
This standard is applicable to food contact paints and coatings.
This standard is not applicable to paper paints and coatings.
2 Terms and Definitions
2.1 Food contact paints and coatings
Paints (and coating or films formed by them) coated on the surface of food contact materials and their products which is in direct contact with foods.
3 Basic Requirements
Food contact paints and coatings shall meet the requirements of GB 4806.1.
4 Technical Requirements
4.1 Raw Material Requirements
The list of allowable resins shall meet the requirements of Appendix A and relevant announcement.
4.2 Sensory requirements for coating
Sensory requirements for coating shall meet those specified in Table 1.
Table 1 Sensory Requirements
Item Requirements
Sensory inspection Smooth in surface, uniform in color and luster, pore-free; after soaking, it shall be free from, blistering and shedding
Soak solution The soak solution obtained from migration test shall be free from sensory deterioration such as coloration, turbidity, precipitation and abnormal odor
4.3 Physical and chemical indexes
4.3.1 Physical and chemical indexes shall meet those specified in Table 2.
Table 2 Physical and Chemical Indexes
Item Index Inspection method
Overall migration/(mg/dm2)a ≤ 10 GB 31604.8
Potassium permanganate consumption/(mg/kg)
Distilled water (60℃, 2h or boil for 0.5h; then put at ambient temperature for 24h)b ≤ 10 GB 31604.2
Heavy metal (calculated in Pb)/(mg/kg)
4% acetic acid (volume fraction) (60℃, 2h or boil for 0.5h, and then put at ambient temperature for 24h)b ≤ 1 GB 31604.9
a As for paints and coatings in contact with foods for infants, the result shall be converted into mg/kg according to the area volume ratio in actual use, and the limit shall be less than or equal to 60mg/kg.
b As for the test conditions of coatings used for kitchenware and drinkware, "boil for 0.5h, and then put at ambient temperature for 24h" applies, while "60℃, 2h" is adopted for other coatings.
4.3.2 The physical and chemical indexes of monomer and other initiators, such as specific migration limit, total specific migration limit and maximum residue quantity shall meet the requirements of Appendix A and relevant announcement.
4.4 Additives
Additives shall meet the requirements of GB 9685 and relevant announcement.
