1 Scope
This standard is applicable to food contact metal materials and articles.
2 Terminologies and Definitions
2.1 Food Contact Metal Materials and Articles
Various metal (including various metal coating and alloy) materials and articles which are expected or have been in contact with foodstuffs under normal service condition, hereafter referred to as "metal materials and articles".
2.2 Metal coating
A metal film layer formed on the surfaces of various solid materials or articles via plating technology.
2.3 Base metal
The material forming metal materials and articles, excluding surface coating and metal coating.
3 Basic Requirements
Metal materials and articles shall meet the requirements of GB 4806.1.
4 Technical Requirements
4.1 Raw material requirements
4.1.1 The base metal, metal coating and welding materials used for the food contact surfaces of metal materials and articles shall not cause harm to human health.
4.1.2 Such material compositions as base metal and coating shall be consistent with the identified compositions of the product or the corresponding compositions marked.
4.1.3 Austenite stainless steel, Austentite · ferrite stainless steel and ferrite stainless steel shall be selected for the main part of the stainless steel food containers and table wares as well as food production and management tools and equipment; martensite stainless steel materials may also be adopted for the main part of the drilling and grinding tools for stainless steel tableware and mechanical equipment for food production.
4.2 Sensory requirements
Sensory requirements shall be in accordance with those specified in Table 1.

Sense The surface in contact with food shall be clean, the coating shall be free from cracking and peeling. The welded parts shall be smooth and clean without gas cavity, crack or burr.
Soak solution The soak solution obtained from migration test shall be free from abnormal odor.
4.3 Physical and chemical indexes
4.3.1 The physical and chemical indexes of stainless steel articles in direct contact with foodstuff shall be in accordance with those specified in Table2 .

5 Others
5.1 Migration test
Migration test shall be conducted according to the requirements of GB 31604.1 and GB 5009.156, unless there are special migration test requirements in Appendix A.
5.2 Special service requirements
5.2.1 In metal materials and articles (except tin plate containers), the aluminum, aluminum alloy, copper and copper alloy as well as metal coating without organic coating on food contact surface shall not contact with acid foodstuffs.
5.2.2 Iron-base materials and low alloy steel articles without organic coating shall not contact with acid foodstuffs for a long time.
5.3 Label identification
5.3.1 Label identification shall meet the requirements of GB 4806.1.
5.3.2 The material type and composition of base metal shall be indicated or expressed by Chinese standard designation or unified numerical code, for example, "stainless steel 06Cr19Ni10" or "stainless steel S30408" and "aluminum alloy 3004", etc.
5.3.3 If the food contact surface has metal coating or organic coating, the coating or coating material shall be indicated, for example, "chrome-plated", "galvanized nickel alloy" and "teflon coating", etc. When there is more than one layer of metal coating, the metals of each layer shall be marked in the sequence from outer layer to inner layer, and separated by slash, for example, "chrome-plated / nickel / copper".
