Internal combustion engines - Charge air coolers - Specification
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transport and storage of charge air coolers of internal combustion engine.
This standard is applicable to charge air coolers of internal combustion engine (hereinafter referred to as intercoolers) for automobiles, tractors and construction machinery. Other charge air coolers of internal combustion engine can also be used for reference.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in JB/T 11798 and the following apply.

fronted area
the area of the windward side of the intercooler core where the cooling medium is air
3.2
heat exchange efficiency
the ratio of the actual heat exchange of the intercooler to the maximum possible heat exchange under the same conditions
3.3
hot side
the channel of the charge air in the intercooler
3.4
cold side
the channel of the cooling medium (cooling water or air) in the intercooler
3.5
water cooling type
a type of intercooler that uses water as the cooling medium
3.6
air cooling type
a type of intercooler that uses air as the cooling medium
3.7
standard air
the air at a temperature of 20℃ and under the pressure of 101.3 kPa
4 Technical requirements
4.1 General
The intercooler shall be manufactured according to the product drawings and technical documents approved by the prescribed procedures, and shall meet the requirements of this standard.
4.2 Airtightness
4.2.1 The hot side of the intercooler shall be sealed, and shall be free of leakage after dry compressed air not less than 1.5 times the working pressure and not less than 200 kPa is introduced and the pressure is maintained for 1 min.
4.2.2 The cold side of the water cooling type intercooler shall be sealed, and shall be free of leakage after dry compressed air not less than 350 kPa is introduced and the pressure is maintained for 1 min.
4.3 Hot side cleanliness
The hot side cleanliness of the intercooler is expressed as the impurity mass Wc cleaned from the hot side surface of each intercooler, and Wc shall be calculated according to Formula (1):

a——the empirical constant, taken as 10 mg;
b——the empirical constant, taken as 25 mg/m2;
Fh——the heat transfer area of hot side, m2.
4.4 Trans-heat
The trans-heat of the intercooler shall meet the requirements of the product drawing or supply agreement. In comparison, the actual trans-heat of the charge air under the test conditions shall be converted into the converted trans-heat.
4.5 Resistance
The resistance of medium flowing through the intercooler shall conform to the requirements of product drawings or supply agreements, and the cold side resistance of the air cooling type intercooler shall be corrected to the standard air condition according to Formula (2) for comparison:

4.6 Heat exchange efficiency
4.6.1 Air cooling type intercooler
The heat exchange efficiency of the air cooling type intercooler shall meet those specified in Table 1.

4.7 Vibration resistance
Fill the intercooler with working medium, and fix it on the vibration test stand according to the installation mode during operation. Fix the control sensor on the vibration test stand and the vibration direction is vertical. Make it vibrate according to the requirements of Table 3 for 3 h. Without leakage and damage of parts, the intercooler shall meet the requirements for airtightness in Sub-clause 4.2 after the test.

4 Technical requirements
4.1 General
The intercooler shall be manufactured according to the product drawings and technical documents approved by the prescribed procedures, and shall meet the requirements of this standard.
4.2 Airtightness
4.2.1 The hot side of the intercooler shall be sealed, and shall be free of leakage after dry compressed air not less than 1.5 times the working pressure and not less than 200 kPa is introduced and the pressure is maintained for 1 min.
4.2.2 The cold side of the water cooling type intercooler shall be sealed, and shall be free of leakage after dry compressed air not less than 350 kPa is introduced and the pressure is maintained for 1 min.
4.3 Hot side cleanliness
The hot side cleanliness of the intercooler is expressed as the impurity mass Wc cleaned from the hot side surface of each intercooler, and Wc shall be calculated according to Formula (1):

4.4 Trans-heat

4.5 Resistance

4.7 Vibration resistance
Fill the intercooler with working medium, and fix it on the vibration test stand according to the installation mode during operation. Fix the control sensor on the vibration test stand and the vibration direction is vertical. Make it vibrate according to the requirements of Table 3 for 3 h. Without leakage and damage of parts, the intercooler shall meet the requirements for airtightness in Sub-clause 4.2 after the test.
