1 Subject Content and Application Scope
This standard specifies the names, definitions and corresponding English names of the common standard terminology of welding (including soldering, brazing and thermal cutting) speciality.
This standard is applicable to the preparation of the national, professional and enterprise standards as well as the technical books, teaching materials, thesis presentation.
2 General Terminology
2.1 Welding
A way to join the workpieces by means of heat or pressure or both, either with or without filler materials.
2.2 Welding technique
The ability of the welder or welding operator to perform the details of a welding procedure.
2.3 Welding process
The specific welding process, like submerged arc welding, gas shielded welding. Its meaning includes such contents as metallurgical, electric, physical, chemical and mechanical principles concerned in this process.
2.4 Welding procedure
The processing methods and implementation requirements involved in the production of a weldment, including the weld preparation, material selection, welding process selection, welding parameter and operation requirements, etc.
2.5 Welding procedure specification
The document covering the detailed rules and regulations of processing and practice requirements involved in the production of a weldment and being able to guarantee the reproducibility of quality when skilled welder or operator is operating.
2.6 Welding operation
The general term of all actions to complete the welding process according to the given welding procedure.
2.7 Welding sequence
The welding sequence of all welded joints and welds on a workpiece.
2.8 Progress of welding
The movement direction of the welding heat source along the length extension of a weld.
2.9 Welding circuit
The galvanic circle of the welding current passing through the workpiece and outputted by the welding power supply.2.10 Groove
