GB/T 43839-2024 Safety technical requirements for products used for companion animals (pets)
1 Scope
This document gives the classification and the instructions for use of products used for companion animals (pets) kept in households (hereinafter referred to as “pet products”), specifies the safety technical requirements, inspection rules and marks of pet products, and describes the corresponding test methods.
This document is applicable to the manufacturing, sales and safety evaluation of pet products.
This document is not applicable to various pet products used by children. Additional requirements may apply for pet products that are clearly designed or intended for use by children.
This standard is not applicable to the following products:
——food;
——drugs;
——health care products;
——medical supplies and devices;
——products for experimental animals;
——products for wild animals;
——animal products for animal husbandry;
——animal products for aquaculture;
——products for special animals (police dogs, military dogs, military pigeons, military scout fish and other animals);
——animal products used for training, performing and displaying in aquariums, underwater worlds, zoos, circuses and other places;
——devices and products used for displaying and selling animals in supermarkets, open fairs, restaurants, hotels, guesthouses and other public places;
——various products such as trawls, gillnets, harpoons and fishing tackles for fishing and harvesting economic animals in waters;
——appliances used for hunting, such as explosives, detonators, traps, shotguns, knives, slingshots, bows and arrows and electric hunting grids;
——reagents (water quality conditioners, fungicides, microelement additive, testing reagents, water quality cleaners, etc. used for raising aquatic, amphibious and reptile pets);
——special protective products such as anti-poisoning, radiation-proof and high-temperature-resistant products;
——testing, calibration and debugging equipment of pet products;
——specially designed products.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

pets
ornamental or companion animals kept by families to relieve the mental stress or bear the emotional sustenance of people
Note 1: Pets are animals kept by people for spiritual needs other than economic purposes. They are often regarded as partners, friends and even family members.
Note 2: Some typical examples of pets are as follows according to the classification of their living environment:
a) terrestrial pets (except crawling pets): dogs, cats, rats, rabbits, larks, canaries, etc.;
b) aquatic pets: goldfish, arowana, koi, clownfish, etc.;
c) amphibious pets: horned frogs, tree frogs, toads, etc.;
d) crawling pets: turtles, lizards, snakes, etc.
