Road vehicles - Spark-plugs application test methods
1 Scope
This document specifies the test methods for application on spark-plugs of ignition engines for road vehicles.
This document is applicable to spark-plugs of ignition engines for road vehicles.
2 Normative references
The following documents contain requirements which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.
GB/T 6791 Road vehicles - Spark-plugs and their cylinder head housing - Basic characteristics and dimensions
GB/T 18297 Performance test code for road vehicle engines
QC/T 430 Editorial nominating method for the type designation of spark-plugs
3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
heat-rating value
figure used to indicate the heat dissipation capacity of a spark-plug
Note: With reference to QC/T 430, a greater figure indicates a higher calorific value, and stronger heat dissipation capacity of the spark-plugs
3.2
ignition angle
crank angle of the engine at the moment of ignition
Note: It is positive if before the top dead center at the moment of ignition and negative if after the top dead center at the moment of ignition.
3.3
self-ignition
spontaneous combustion of the gas mixture other than electric ignition of the spark-plug
3.4
pre-ignition
self-ignition before the moment of electric ignition of the spark-plug
3.5
post-ignition
self-ignition after the moment of electric ignition of the spark-plug
4 Test methods
4.1 Basic ignition performance test
4.1.1 Test purpose
It aims to select the structural characteristics of ignition end of the spark-plug, such as ignition position and electrode structure, by tests.
4.1.2 Test specimens
The test specimens shall meet the requirements of the engine performance test.
4.1.3 Test apparatus
The test apparatus shall meet the requirements for the engine performance test bench specified in GB/T 18297.
4.1.4 Test procedure and method
4.1.4.1 Define the parameters to be measured in the test, such as power, torque, and fuel consumption, as well as the spark-plug test procedure.
4.1.4.2 Check the conditions of the engine and the bench system, and make sure that correct fuel is used.
4.1.4.3 Install the spark-plug correctly with the torque specified in GB/T 6791, confirm that the ignition system is connected normally, and start the engine.
4.1.4.4 Measure the engine-related performance parameters defined.
4.1.5 Test result evaluation
Compare the data obtained with spark-plugs of different structural characteristics, and determine the appropriate structural characteristics of the ignition end of spark-plugs.
