Design Parameters of Railway Tank Car Body This standard is applicable to the design of general railway tank car body with standard gauge. 1. Railway Tank Car Body 1.1. Under empty state, the distance from end board center of tank to rail surface shall be less than or equal to 2600mm. 1.2. The empty volume of tank shall be determined through calculation according to the nature of loaded medium. On this basis, the ratio of empty volume to effective volume of tank will be increased by 0.5%~2% as volume margin. 1.3. Where the thickness of top board and bottom board of the tank is different, the centripetal wrap angle of bottom board shall be greater than or equal to 90°. 1.4. The inner diameter dimension series of end board of the tank are: 2200mm, 2400mm, 2600mm, 2800mm, 2900mm or 3000mm. 1.5. The inner diameter of tank manhole shall not be less than 560mm. 1.6. Where dish-shaped end board is adopted for tank, the spherical surface arc radius shall be 3500mm while the transitional arc radius shall be 200mm, 300mm or 400mm. 1.7. The tank car shall be equipped with tank safety device. Thin and thick oil tank shall be equipped with respiration type safety valves, two for the thin oil tank car while one for the thick oil tank car. The safety devices shall be arranged for other tank cars according to the design requirements. 2. Underframe 2.1. The stress borne by the crosser of tank on saddle shall be less than or equal to 450kPa (4.5kgf/cm2). 2.2. The centripetal wrap angle α of saddle: a. For tank car with underframe: α≥78°; b. For tank car without underframe: α≥120°. 3. Open Type Steam Heating Device 3.1. The intake pressure of pipeline for open type heating device shall not exceed 500kPa (5kgf/cm2). 3.2. The connectors of main heating pipe shall be arranged on both sides of tank, with spacing within 1500~1600mm. Under empty state, the distance from connector center to rail surface shall be within 640~800mm. 4. Discharge Device 4.1. For the discharging tank car with side drain valve, the side drain valve (or drain tube) shall be arranged on both sides of tank and the liquid outlet diameter shall be greater than or equal to 100mm. 4.2. The spacing between draining (I) positions of side drain valve or drain tube of discharging tank car shall be 1700~1750mm. Under empty state, the distance from liquid outlet center to rail surface shall be within 500~550mm. 5. Guardrail Workbench and safety guardrail or handrail shall be arranged near the manhole. Generally, the height of safety guardrail shall be greater than or equal to 600mm. Under special circumstances (e.g. where the diameter of tank or insulation cover is greater than 2800mm), it may be dealt with according to the requirements of design specification. 6. Others Other dimension parameters of tank car body shall meet the relevant requirements of GB 146.1-83 Rolling Stock Gauge for Standard Gauge Railways.
